Family Impact of Assistive Technology Scale for Adaptive Seating (FIATS-AS)
About the FIATS-AS
The Family Impact of Assistive Technology Scale for Adaptive Seating (FIATS-AS) scale or Measure de l'Impact des Aides Techniques sur la Famillie (MIAT-F) is a 64-item, parent-report questionnaire that measures functional status and change over time in key child and family domains that may be influenced by adaptive seating interventions. Parents read each item and indicate the degree to which they agree or disagree on a 7-point Likert rating scale.
The FIATS-AS scale has nine dimensions with items exclusively assigned to each. The dimensions include four child-related factors (autonomy, contentment, doing activities, family/social interaction) and four parent- and family-related factors (caregiver relief, effort, safety, supervision). A ninth dimension (technology acceptance) is standalone scale embedded within the FIATS-AS to measure the moderating effect of parental receptiveness of assistive technology.
Application
The FIATS-AS scale may be used for research, program evaluation, and clinical applications. An accompanying syntax document defines the dimensions and details the item assignment and logic to score the FIATS-AS scale and its individual dimensions.
